Pine is a happy, busy class consisting of 10 mixed Key Stage 2 and 3 children who have a range of diverse needs and abilities.
We offer a bespoke curriculum, tailored to the individual needs of each of the children based around a termly topic and seasonal events. A typical day in Pine class involves structure and routine supported by visual schedules, objects of reference and musical cues. The children will experience a range of multi-sensory activities with a combination of adult led and self-initiated activities. Above all we aim to make our learning fun and engaging, promoting the development of independence and life skills where appropriate, as well as exploration, understanding of cause and effect, basic numeracy and literacy skills.
Communication skills are a priority and we use a total communication approach which may include any combination of speech, signing (Signalong), core vocabulary boards, communication books, Talk Pads, photographs, gesture, facial expressions, so the children are all supported to communicate their needs and choices effectively.
The children are encouraged to develop physically as well, which ranges from individual physiotherapy programmes, to rebound therapy, hydrotherapy, PE sessions and bike riding!
